You and Me (another letter)
21st April 2025

Our love was made many years past,
it was beautiful, and unassuming, and warm,
It was you, and it was me,
and it …it is still there, fighting… struggling…
to find it’s way through time and distance,
to the us of here, and now.
It comes through, as I feel it, but is difficult to grab onto,
difficult to recognise and find shelter in,
a labyrinth of time and life has bent it one way and another,
distorted it through an impossible kaleidoscopic lens of goings on.

We conquered the world you and I in our time,
we were and we remain a team,
but in the quiet that is forming around us, we have found I think that we are not the same,
and we didn’t see this, until maybe too late,
and now we find ourselves searching without knowing where to look,
analysing open questions, in a closed book,
we cannot go back I feel,
it has all the hallmarks of a mess, without being one,
but with the only one way forward,
to move on.

But still that warmth, i feel it now, in my heart, my breath,
…and in the tears in my eyes.
as different as it seems we are, and were,
we shared something deep and wonderful,
that can never be taken away,
…but that also cannot guide, nor fuel, the now,
or the that, that is to come.
Those are for other things within each of us,
for the other versions of ourselves waiting to be discovered, waiting to be set free.

I cannot look back without being grateful,
and deeply affectionate of who we were, what we had, what we created,
but our connection has faded,
leaving only past,
and the lesson now I think I am learning is that past alone is not enough.
I am sad, but find solace in knowing that what we had will never cease to be,
nor who we were,
we were beautiful, it was beautiful,

…you and me.
